The Teen Advisory Board is sponsoring a Pet Food Drive for the Hamilton County Humane Society. We have a box in the front foyer, including a HCHS wish list.

Wired for Wind
Wednesday, November 9
3 – 4 pm
As the world's demand for clean energy sources increases, so has the interest in wind power. The 2011 National Science Experiment Wired for Wind helps youth better understand the physics of wind energy and how it can be used to conserve energy and save our planet from the pollution and harm caused by burning fossil fuels. This program is presented by Bernadette Huber of the 4H Purdue Extension Office. Registration is required. Indiana Room.

Free Self-Defense Classes for Women!

Hamilton North Public Library is offering a two-part Self-Defense Classes for Women. The first workshop is Thursday, September 8, and the second on Thursday the 15th. Both classes start at 6 pm.

Edie Keesee of the Noblesville Police Department will discuss the three different types of rapists, myths about rape, and safety tips. The second class will demonstrate hands-on self defense techniques. Both classes will be intertwined with real life stories of cases and examples of how to stay safer.

The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest

Are you a voracious reader? Want to win a gift card to your favorite bookstore? Would you like to help HNPL win free books? If you answered yes to any of those questions, check out The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest, sponsored by author Kay Cassidy.

How do you participate?

1) Go to the YA section of HNPL, or go to www.kaycassidy.com/hunt to see the participating books on display.
2) Choose a book that you like, and READ it.
3) Print the trivia challenge from the website, or see the circulation desk for a copy.
4) Answer the questions.

If you get more than 80% correct, you'll be entered into a monthly drawing for a $50 gift card to a bookstore of your choice. If you win, HNPL also wins. We'll receive a bag of books that are included in the hunt.

Musician Evan Slusher

Pavilion
Evan Slusher is a singer/songwriter from Noblesville, IN. He plays a mixture of his own original music as well as a variety of cover songs. Evan's original music incorporates stories portrayed by a soft, mellow voice accompanied by his acoustic guitar. Songs in the modern folk and acoustic genres are included in his set list.

This concert will be in the Pavilion, weather permitting. Otherwise, we'll be in Meeting Rooms A & B.

As of Monday, June 20, our Summer Reading Program is live! Registration and logging are online at www.hnpl.lib.in.us.

To complete the program, teens must read 500 pages throughout the program, which ends on Friday, July 29.

There has been some confusion about logging. Books read prior to June 20 are ineligible for the Summer Reading Program.

Local musician Chris Seal will be performing at the pavilion on Wednesday, June 1 at 6.30 pm. He'll be playing acoustic originals, mostly of the folk genre.
Bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfortable outdoor seating.
If the weather is bad, he'll be playing inside in Meeting Rooms A & B.

The Library is gearing up for the 2nd Annual HNPL Teen Poetry Contest. All middle & high school students can submit up to 3 original poems.

Prizes will be awarded to the top, 3 students in the each category:
Free Verse
Limerick
Haiku

Poems can be emailed to Amy at awolfe@hnpl.lib.in.us or dropped off at the front desk of the Cicero branch.

Also, all students are invited to read their poetry at the Teen Poetry Night on Thursday, May 5th @ 5:30 p.m. at the Cicero branch.

Participate in the HNPL Winter Reading Program and earn tickets to win great prizes, like gift cards to Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Starbucks & iTunes!

You'll earn tickets based on the number of pages read:
1 ticket for 200 pages read
2 tickets for 300 pages read
3 tickets for 400 pages read

Each additional 100 pages read will earn an extra ticket, with a maximum of 800 pages.
